Rabbi Lindsey Healey-Pollack was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary where she received an M.A. in Talmud and Rabbinic Literature. She is excited to share her love of Jewish learning and to create a path to Jewish tradition and community for people at all levels of observance.
A native of Houston, Texas, Rabbi Lindsey, as she prefers to be called, was not raised in a Jewish family, but began her journey to Judaism as an undergraduate at Claremont College student. She said, “I was drawn to Judaism’s culture of learning, openness to questions, and to its emphasis on the actions we take in our daily lives. I was warmly embraced by the Jewish community at Claremont’s Hillel and decided to formally enter the conversion process after graduation.”
When asked what drew the rabbi to pursue a rabbinical career, she said, “I was inspired by a love of Jewish learning and the richness of a tradition that values inquiry, questions, and discussion. I was drawn to Kol HaNeshamah because it is a community that shares this spirit of openness and curiosity. It is a very special and participatory community that is welcoming to people at all levels of observance. It is also a community that is dedicated to Jewish values such as family, community and tikkun olam (healing the world). My husband David and I are very excited and eager to join this vibrant and energetic shul.”
Through her years as a rabbinical student, Rabbi Healey-Pollack has taught and served diverse Jewish populations of all ages. She has served as the rabbinic intern at Congregation Shaare Zedek in Manhattan and at the United Synagogue of Hoboken, where she enjoyed teaching Rabbinical Assembly’s Introduction to Judaism program and creating other learning opportunities for the community. Rabbi Healey-Pollack spent two years as the High Holiday rabbi for Anshei Chesed: The Conservative Synagogue of Cape Cod. She also completed a chaplaincy internship at DOROT, working with older adults in Manhattan. Rabbi Healey-Pollack is passionate about creating meaningful and participatory Jewish learning experiences for adults, and has taught a monthly study group for new parents at Park Avenue Synagogue as well as several sessions at Limmud NY 2018 conference.
The rabbi and her husband David Pollack are the proud parents of two children. Having recently moved from New York City to Englewood, they are excited to join Congregation Kol HaNeshamah and get to know the wider Jewish community in northern New Jersey and to explore everything the area has to offer.
