About Congregation Kol HaNeshamah

Founded in 1997

Kol HaNeshamah is an inclusive, egalitarian Jewish community under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Lindsey Healey-Pollack. Our Shabbat and holiday services combine traditional and modern elements in a style that is informal, interactive and participatory. Our members, along with the rabbi, share the responsibilities of leyning (chanting from the Torah), leading services and offering divrei Torah (teachings).

Shabbat mornings are a lively combination of davening, questioning, tefillah and talk. Jewish tradition anchors us as we set in motion the creativity that reflects the breadth of our contemporary Jewish community.

We take very seriously the mitzvah of Tikkun Olam (healing the world). Our members participate in community service projects throughout the year such as assisting at a homeless shelter, preparing holiday gifts for needy families, and kids’ mitzvah days in which children participate in projects that benefit the needy and the elderly. In times of sadness, the community comes together to console, nurture and support its members.

Learning! We offer weekly Shiur (study sessions) led by Rabbi Lindsey and our members, as well as talmud classes, synagogue skills workshops, havdalah discussions, a reading group, and special programs led by our rabbi, our members and guest speakers. For those who want to learn to leyn (chant) from the Torah or haftarah, instruction is available and our community is always ready to celebrate members’ new-found skills.

Our community loves to be together! Community events and celebrations throughout the year such as Chanukah and Purim parties, Shabbat Kiddush luncheons, Friday night dinners, and theatre trips provide opportunities for adults and children to share the joy of Jewish living in an atmosphere that is both warm and respectful of the diversity of observance.
